Steve earned his eligibility to the VFW in serving in the US Air Force from 1966 to 1973.  Steve served five years in SEA with a tour in Vietnam 1969 1970 as a member of Joint Combined Forces & 7th Air Force.  He was involved in Operation Secret War Arclite and Rolling Thunder, as well as several other Top Secret Missions. His duties were classified Top Secret Crypto  during his time in SEA.  He has received numerous awards and recognitions.

Steve joined the VFW in 2013.  During that time he has served in the following roles District Commander 2020-2022. District Junior Vice Commander 2019 -2020.  Post Commander of 981 2017-2019. Service Officer. 2019 - 2020.  Chaplain 2020 - 2022.  He is also a National Aid De Camp 2020.

Commander Mac is also a active member in other Military Organizations beside VFW. American Legion, and Life Member of DAV.

Steve resides in Grayslake Illinois with his wife Kari of 48 years.  They have three daughters, one son,  5 grandchildren and one great grandchild.  He also has a companion service dog Luna.  A tiny 145 lb Bull Mastiff.
